Taking The Tram
We drove over sunlit hills and through misty valleys to Seaton for a ride on the tram, a narrow- guage (2ft 9in) electric tramway. The route runs three miles up to Colyton along the River Axe, past meadows, nature reserves with bird hides, even controlling the level crossing gates.
At Colyton we passed the time before our return run enjoying lunch in the cafe and browsing through the Vintage Shed, a collection of small units with a wide variety of bric-a-brac at very reasonable prices.
Once back in Seaton we waded over the flinty shingle and on the prom a little before taking off eastwards, stopping at Lyme Regis for an ice cream then to West Bay to see the start of the famous Jurrassic Coast, where fossils literally fall out of the cliff. (There are warnings of rockfall and evidence of relatively recent landslip). There being no obvious dinosaur remains we watched the sun reflected in the surf until the incoming tide indicated it was time to leave for our temporary home.
