"I think the apples have fallen."

Dear Diary,

I think the word is spreading that my apples, like the leaves, are falling and there are easy pickings to be had!  The deer are coming now to graze in the field and gather apples.  They just have a month or two to fatten up so they have some chance of making it through the winter.  I hope the first snow is still weeks away but the deer are wasting no time.  This young one was cautiously on alert, aware of any movement.  Hunting season starts in a couple of weeks.  They are safe on my land but it is a time of worry for all of us.
