Martedi

Stopped at a cafe for breakfast on the way to the Metro. It seemed like a reasonably well to-do place but still only charged 1.30 Euros for a great cappuccino and had lovely pastries and cakes and stuff as well for not much more. I considered how much similar things were in the UK and then asked myself a few questions about Italian wages and their economy in general but didn't really reach any conclusions - one to ponder for another day I reckon.

Anyway, caught the Metro over to Ottaviano for The Vatican and had the novelty of buying Vatican City stamps from the mobile post office in St Peter's Square for our postcards. Had a wander through the streets, ducked in and out of shops to avoid the rain showers, and made our way over to Piazza Navona  for some lunch, before visiting The Pantheon which was just as wonderful as I remembered it - but a lot more ornate, and bigger too...maybe my memory's not quite as good as I think it is.

Finished the day off with a visit to the cat sanctuary at Torre Argentina. Quite the thing to do it seems - loads of cats, loads of Roman ruins, what a combo! My girls loved it. After that it was time for the bus home - the good old 628 with a stop right next to where we ended up, why it was almost like we'd planned it.
