Table Mountain from Lions Head
Our first day in Cape Town gave us our first walk up Lions Head Mountain. We were not alone and the majority of our fellow early morning trekkers were over 40 years younger than us. The views over Cape Town, Camps Bay and Robben Island were spectacular and more than justified the 7.30 am start. We were back in time for a proper breakfast and could watch England beat Australia in the rugby world cup with clear consciences. It was difficult, however, to justify staying to watch the following game in which New Zealand would dispatch Ireland, but Josh seemed to manage it. The rest of us wandered down to the waterfront of Camps Bay and after buying the compulsory fridge magnet bottle opener in the Hard Rock Cafe, we found ourselves in a convenient pub which provided beer and burgers for lunch and just happened to be screening the rugby we thought we would be missing. How lucky were we???
Later, the Botanical Gardens at Hermanus were conveniently on our route to the Constantia Wine Farm where we met up with some of Josh's family celebrating his Grandfathers 93rd birthday (21st October). There was much hilarity and much good food and wine, which made it all the easier to agree to meet up with J's uncle David early the following morning for an escorted walk up a nearby peak. A steady gentle gradient and glorious views over Hout Bay and False Bay were promised... Maybe even a Braai afterwards. Wow.
Night spent at 9 Hoopoe Avenue, Camps Bay.
