Pitt Island

Up 4.30am to travel to Owenga to hitch a ride on fishing boat as plane from Chatham Island to Pitt Island still not going. Boat left at 5.55am with 7 of us and a family returning with week old baby and two young brothers.
Warm welcome from Bernie and Brent Mallison at Flowerpot Bay Lodge. Huge cooked breakfast then off to one 9f the DOC reserves. Caravan Bush - Ellen Elizabeth Preece conservation Covenant. Bird song amazing Tom tits very curious and we watched one batter a Caterpillar before eating it.
Then we climbed Mount Hakepa 231m to stunning views of the island we could see Pyramid Island and South East Island. First place to see the sun in the new Millennium and figurine in photo commemorates this.
