The Nuggets- Pitt Island
A day mainly 4 wheel driving and landscape photography. As we went along the coastline looked out over 44 Islands the highest 80m. Then Star Keyes Island and South East Island to Canister reserve then to Glory Bay for lunch in the old restored house. Then across the peninsula to Rangiauria point passing Sail, Castle, Little Mangere and then Mangere Islands.
On our travels we visited Moriori camp sites and viewed the remains dating from 800 years ago.
Also Chatham Islands oyster catchers and white fronted terns. Then Brent told us to walk quietly to the ridge as there were usually skuas there. We not only saw Skua but Northern Giant Petral feeding in a dead sheep on the foreshore.
We continued on to the Nuggets and Rangiauria Point. The most spectacular scenery.
Lastly godwits flew in as we were heading back to the lodge
