Poplars

The day began in mist and damp autumnal air, but by the time we had roused ourselves and done first and second breakfasts the skies were blue again, so we took a long stroll up to the farm shop for lunch.

This stand of poplars has been well managed over the years, and the shifting light and murmuration from the leaves as they twist and tremble in the gentle wind is a delight.

By the time we get back home the light is already fading. I have two consecutive meetings this evening - a response to the climate crisis by the local authority, and an update on the future plans at Slimbridge WWT.
