Ignorance

I always thought that when someone used the phrase
a shoe in that it meant a shoe, like a foot in the door sort of thing, which was why it was referred to as a shoe.

Was that only me ?

Apparently it's a betting term.

When a horse is so much the favourite in a race that it can't fail to win then it only has to be shooed over the winning line, hence it's a shoo-in !

Just how stupid am I ?
