The Glenlee

It was a good day to be going to Glasgow as it was a very cold and grey day. We headed to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery where we warmed up looking at the Linda McCartney Retrospective photography exhibition. What a wonderful collection of photos such moving intimate portraits of family and musicians. Also an imaginative artistic use of photography techniques. We then had a quick look at the Mackintosh and Glasgow Art Society displays agreeing that the visit yesterday to the Hill House offered a much fuller presentation of his design.

After a quick visit to a local fish shop for some smoked salmon we headed to view the Viking and Celtic Stones at the Govan and Linthouse Parish Church. The church has a long history dating back to the 9th century and 31 carved monuments have been found between the 9th to 11th century. Also 5 very large Viking hogback stones. It’s a fascinating find and surprising they survived with the demolition of the adjacent large industrial buildings.

On our way back to the subway we spotted the Glenlee Tall Ship moored on the Clyde opposite. She is only one of five Clydebuilt sailing ships in the world that remain afloat today. An interesting day.
