Towering

These water towers sit adjacent to the Chuilexi runway, serving the main base of the Conservancy. When Wim and his young family selected this area of the Reserve to set up a camp in 2011, there were no roads, buildings or water tanks. He, Chelene and their two young children lived in a dome tent and cooked over a fire. Since that time a lot of investment has been pumped into infrastructure to make the Conservancy increasingly self-sufficient, and now the operations function extremely efficiently with Wim at the helm. We work with Wim on some of the more technical elements such as monitoring of conservation impact, the community programme, and general fundraising to keep everything afloat.

Days like this when colleagues in the UK are not online, are peaceful. We may have grabbed a longer more leisurely lunch as it’s Sunday, but it was productive to work uninterrupted on a few key deliverables. All in all, a positive day.
