Wind towers

Left Shiraz at 8 am for the 350 km drive to Yazd. We stopped at Abatkuh at 12 to look at an old ice house and what’s reputed to be a 4000 year old cedar tree. Then we visited a palace - a lovely old place with wind towers that kept the house cool. We explored the roof to get a good look then had lunch. Chips and salad again ( we went to a tiny street restaurant last night and I had a kind of spinach cake/ omelette thing which was really tasty but veggies are not really catered for here)

Then it was another few hours through flat desert then craggy mountains before arriving in Yazd. We had our first sighting of a Tower of Silence where in olden times Zoroastrians left their dead to be pecked clean by vultures.
