Happy Memories

Today we said 'goodbye' and celebrated the life of Andy's Mum, Sheila.  We had a beautiful service in a building overlooking fields and woodland, with memories shared with words, pictures and music.  I'm so proud of Andy who managed to read a beautiful poem in memory of his mum.

Afterwards we gathered with family and friends at the local arts centre - a place special to Sheila who was a talented watercolour artist.  It was so touching that people took the time and energy to come along, especially as some are now very elderly.

I met life long friends of the family and ex-teaching colleagues of Sheila of whom I have heard so much over the years.  Others were relatively new acquaintances to the family, such as a lady from the local community who had spent time visiting Andy's mum over the last few years to sing and read with her and to bring her happiness in what were very difficult days for Sheila as she struggled with her memory and physical fitness.  A precious day that will always be with us.

This is a picture from the 'Green Room' where we gathered after the funeral service.
