New initiatives

Full marks to the Royal Southampton Yacht Club for a range of new initiatives launched at its annual general meeting today, and electing a new top team to see through its plans, These include freezing membership fees at current low levels, increasing the age limit for young adult members from 29 to 34, and making all RSYC racing free to members.
The Club is the leading organiser of double handed racing and is launching its 40th anniversary series of races for 2020 alongside those for the Club’s fully crewed racing. All this is alongside a full programme of social events and a programme for cruising sailors both motor and sail including participation in next summer’s Mayflower400 celebration of the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Pilgrim Fathers from the city.  The new team of Flag Officers led by newly elected Commodore Bob Trimble is  l to r: Helen Verstage, Rear Commodore House; Mike Garvey, Rear Commodore Finance; the new Commodore, Bob Trimble; Richard House, Rear Commodore Facilities and Stephen Parry, Rear Commodore Sailing.

The Commodore said: “We’re tremendously proud of our heritage but we also pride ourselves n being a very friendly and welcoming club. We’ve been busy re-organising our structure and systems  to face a buoyant modern future.”
