Best Buddha so far...

Decided the best way to check out the sights would be on the hop on hop off boat up the river. The first inkling we had that we might not have got on the right boat was when we were handed some life jackets. Turned out to be an express shuttle boat on a choppy river so a few bumpy moments but a most welcome breeze.
Reclining Buddha was certainly impressive in posture and size but one couldn’t help but be a little in awe of the golden Buddha in the picture. Weighing in at 5.5 tonnes of solid gold it was quite something. Discovered in the 1950’s but, as it was encased in plaster they hadn’t realised what it was made of until the crane broke in the attempt to lift it. It’s origin remains a mystery.
Deciding that was enough buddhas for one day we jumped in a tuc tuc thing to be told we had to make a quick stop along the way. Transpired it was a stop at a silk shop which if we bought something at the driver would have been given 5litres of free petrol, we didn’t oblige so he was only given one! The things people think of.
