Flag Day
This is one of two pictures I've taken today, both whilst at traffic lights on my way home after dropping G off in the morning.
Today is UAE Flag Day - an occasion so new, I was glad the radio presenters elaborated on it. It also commemorates our current ruler's accession to the Presidency as well as all the founding fathers' and the work they did.
Flags are flown everywhere (see my blip) and flag-raising ceremonies are held in schools and various other government offices. G sent me pictures of the event that took place in her school!
It's been a nice easing into the new week. I had a chat with SweetArt as she goes into hospital tomorrow to start her treatment for breast cancer. G did her Skype lesson though she had to start an hour later. She made a delicious stir fry before she started. The new Heinz soy sauce is making Chinese dishes taste so much better. :)
And a few minutes spent going through the receipts from the last few weeks resulted in me winning £30 of shopping at Carrefour. Not bad for doing some tidying up. :D
** From Google:
The colours (of the UAE flag) contain the Pan-Arab colours and represent Arab unity as well as independence. The colour of green in the UAE flag is a symbol of fertility while the white represents neutrality and peace. The color of black in the flag is a symbol of the country's oil wealth and the flag color of Muhammad who is the Islamic prophet. The red running down the side represents courage, bravery and strength.
