London to Brighton

It was the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run today, and thankfully yesterday’s storm had passed over, leaving a lovely calm, sunny morning.

I got up and went out quite early as I wanted to see the aftermath of yesterday’s fierce sea. I drove to Hove where the sea had washed the beach up and onto the promenade, leaving benches buried in pebbles, some had completely been uplifted and re-cycling bins and been lifted and were on their side in the middle of the walkway and road.

I was home by 10.30am, we had brunch, took the boys out for a walk and then headed into Brighton to see the veteran cars. We didn’t see anyone famous this year, but it’s always great to see the cars, and I love the waistcoats that these two guys are wearing. They’d just reached the finish line at this point and had actually towed another old car all the way from Crawley after it had broken down.

The weather started to turn and there was rain in the air (what a surprise!), so we decided to head back to the marina where we’d left our car, but we stopped off at Bison Beer, which is a pop up bar, and we sat and had a drink in their marquee, looking out to sea.

We stopped at Asda to pick a couple of things up before heading home, and were now sat watching the F1.

Sadly we’ve just read that a veteran car driver was killed on the M23 in a collision with a lorry and his passenger is critical. The organisers don’t know why they were there as it’s not part of the route, but that’s very sad to hear and thoughts are with their family.
