Clouds over Kintyre

I was in Kintyre today , first of all meeting the workforce and management at CS Wind , the Korean owned manufacturer of towers for wind turbines ,that is currently consulting on substantial redundancies .

Unite the Union is spearheading a strong attempt to defend the jobs and I was more than willing, along with local MP Brendan O’Hara to offer support to them and everyone who could be affected. We will go on doing so.

Then I met with some of the local milk producers who unfortunately haven’t succeeded in their attempt to buy the Campbeltown creamery from First Milk, which will now close.

These are heavy blows for Kintyre and it will be important to bring together all the official players at national and local level to work with the community in order to try and maintain confidence , protect what exists and seek new opportunities .
