Foetid Parachute

Another grim and rainy day, with a brief respite in the late afternoon. So it was off  for a slow meander round my local wood to hunt for more fungi. They're absolutely loving this weather - every cloud has a silver lining!

Among the species I discovered was this Foetid Parachute. I'm afraid I forgot to sniff it, so I can't vouch for its odour, but it's supposed to smell like rotten cabbage. It characteristically grows on decayed woody debris of broadleaved trees, especially Hazel, which is very abundant in Thorpe Wood. It's widespread but occasional in southern England but it's not a species I've ever noticed before.
