Intent
A rather grey and gloomy afternoon for a walk round Ferry Meadows, and with a chilly wind it felt quite wintry for the first time this year. This Grey Heron was tucked away in a willow tree, watching the water rise in the lake below it. I spent some time watching it, no more than a few metres away, but it didn't fly off. I know that it was aware of me, as I have one shot where it's twisting its neck to get a better view of me but it must have decided that I was harmless.
The sky got darker and darker as I walked, and I just had time to photograph one of a very attractive group of Blackening Waxcaps before the rain started. For once I was glad to be back home in the warm and dry!
