A long day’s flight into the night

Sunrise in Bangkok is accompanied by an erratic warble of birdsong. Overnight, not that I saw any of it, the Bangkok Marathon took place avoiding the heat of the day. My own marathon began at 0730 when I was picked up for the drive to the airport. The roads were pleasantly empty as I was whisked past the breakfast bearing tuk tuks wobbling precariously to peddle food to knowledgeable locals. The land all round the new airport has been reclaimed from paddy fields.

Fast track security and excellent Lounge facilities courtesy of Cathay Pacific helped the time to pass profitably using their high speed WiFi to send my business mails.

BA is no longer my favourite airline. The ageing 777’s seem to be hard work for all the onboard crew. I always hope the important bits in this elderly aircraft are still performing at their best! Screens and recharge points are particularly temperamental. On a 12 hour flight that can be critical if all your travel documentation is on a flat phone!

Further proof, If it were needed, that our climate is changing rapidly came in an announcement from the flight deck that the Inbound flight was delayed by the failure of the jet stream that normally pushes these Far East flights well ahead of their schedules. ( I will be planting more trees in the Caledonian forest to offset some of my own contributions to this global crisis.)

I am now waiting at LHR for the flight to EDI - a three hour wait at the end of a 12 hour flight is a little tedious! So near ... but ... !
