What are these?

Another lovely morning which gradually clouded up during the afternoon. Cold with a frost too.

Not too much happened. Spent the morning with our visitor Rosemary. After lunch I created my 2020 blip calendar with my favourite image from each month selected for the corresponding month on the calendar.

We rounded off the afternoon with a walk around Mote Park as the cold air began to bite. Early in the walk we passed this tree with these curious appendages that looked like catkins. Anyone know what they are?
