Back Blip…

……………….… Excursions near Inverness

A Back Blip, uploaded Monday 25th November for 9th May.

The main photo was taken when we visited Culloden Moor, the resting place of 1500 Jacobites and 50 Government soldiers who fought and died here in 1746.
Leanach Cottage, featured in the photo was built in the early 18th century and lived in as a home until 1912. It later became the first visitor centre for the Culloden Battlefield.

Extra photos
Clava Cairns - these are about 4000 years old and were built to house the dead, a Bronze Age cemetery complex of passage graves, graves and standing stones, situated in a beautiful woodland setting.
For those who read the books or watched the TV Outlander series will know Clava Cairns inspired the fictitious Craig na Dun standing stones, especially the split stone.

Brodie Castle - the ancestral home of the Brodie clan for 400 years. Inside is an impressive art collection, furniture and a magnificent library with over 6000 books. Outside, we saw the remains of the more than 100 varieties of daffodils planted in the surrounding gardens.
