Warwickshire day 3: Rollright Stones
Will wanted some archaeology! There's only one stone circle in Warwickshire and it's a good one - Rollright Stones. You're not meant to be able to count how many stones there are and they are all gnarly and strangely patterned. They are watched over by three dancing maidens, beautifully decorated with apples and corn and rosemary sprigs. Nearby is a collapsed portal tomb. We wandered into a nearby woodland which was full of the most extraordinary organic and pagan sculptures - all spirals and strange bivouacs like this one. Tons of folklore concerning witches turning kings and knights into stone.
In the evening we went to see The Irishman directed by Scorsese - it was three and a half hours long! Fortunately we were in one of those cinemas that have sofas and waiters bring you food and drink (and ice cream sundays in trendy kilner jars (yes, I had one). It was actually a magnificent film, Al Pacino and Robert de Nero in flying form.
