Ice Lizard
Today it was our plan to get up early (we did) and drive up toward the mountain (we did) and see a huge number of eagles feeding on salmon in the Nooksack River (erm... not so much). It was a cold, crisp, sunny day and the eagles did not know of our plans, so off they took, somewhere unseen, my guess is flying high and bright in the sky. They like a sunny day just as much as we do.
We arrived at the bridge on Mosquito Lake Road to find a few cars, a couple of photographers pointing their lenses at the one or two eagles high up in the trees, and no eagles down at the river feeding. No worries though. We decided to drive on up the road to see if the eagles were having breakfast at another spot.
We got as far a Glacier, and decided to turn around and take the turn off towards Silver Lake. There we saw some geese, a few ducks, a bit of frost, (did I mention the amazing fairy tale fields of frost we passed as we drove up? They were so beautiful, but we didn't stop to photograph them.) and a snag covered with amazing icicles. Hence the Ice Lizard. We had a lovely walk before heading back to Bellingham for lunch at the Hilltop Restaurant, the source of Shelly's favorite pancakes, which he devoured with gusto while I had my Greek scramble. After that we headed home to take a nap. Turned into a wonderful day even without the eagles.
