Red-eared Firetail (Stagonopleura oculata)
The Red-eared Firetail (Stagonopleura oculata) was one of the first species I spotted in the garden when I bought the house 2 years ago and I love them. I don't know if they are migratory but I do know that I only see them here for a couple of months a year, around January to March. They are timid little birds and quickly fly away if they notice you, consequently I have only ever managed to take a photo from some distance. There are many other little birds here which are even more elusive.
There are several white-breasted robins visiting the garden...and one seems to be getting used to me sitting under it's favourite tree. It came and sat on a branch about 20cm from me several times this morning but was too close for a photo with the lens I was using.
Very oppressive day here today and we could certainly do with some rain to clear the atmosphere.
