Herne Bay Pier
Met my son's dog Winnie (extra) for the first time today. She belonged to his step daughter's nan who was unable to look after her any longer. Winnie became an instant member of the family. Matt became the chief looker after and walker and she's made an impact on him especially the walking which had led to him losing weight!
It wasn't the best of days for a walk along the North Kent Coast. We were expecting cold, bright, sunny weather. Instead, we got a cold, mainly cloudy day with an intense strong north-easterly breeze blowing off the sea which went right through you. Winnie seemed not to mind, being covered in fur.
We stopped at the Kings Hall in Herne Bay for a bit of lunch. I was hoping it would be warmer inside. It was only marginally so. There were large doors which opened automatically to let people in and out which faced directly onto the seafront. They took ages to close so we were blasted by a huge dose of cold air for several seconds each time someone went in or out.
Herne Bay Pier(head) is my contribution to Derelict Sunday. This structure has been a landmark in the town for as long as I can remember. Although it seems that the pier was in operation until storms in 1978/9/80 caused the severance. This was the third pier at this site and it was built mainly to serve paddle steamer excursions in the Thames Estuary. You can read all about it here. Thank you to Marlieske for hosting.
