¡ Ole !

Flamenco at the Casa de la Cultura this evening. The photo's crappy quality, but this dance with heavy train and large swirling scarf was amazing. For me she was the equal of the star of the show, local boy Agustin Barajas. His fan club was out in force, justifiably so because he's very talented. As far as I can judge anyway, but my local flamenco experts guiri and F (also at the show) concur.

It was an interestingly themed show, apparently inspired by a talk Federico Garcia Lorca gave in Buenos Aires in 1933, called Cómo canta una ciudad de noviembre a noviembre, evoking the passage of the seasons in the streets of Granada. It started with a scene in a station with suitcase-carrying tango dancers, and a later scene involved dancing/self-flagellating monks in long brown habits -- not what you expect to see in a flamenco show, but I presume related to Holy Week.

Earlier in the day: Beatriz invited all her students to lunchtime tapas at her flat, so we got to meet yet another bunch of new people of various nationalities. Very convivial. As we were leaving home for this, we saw what looked like an escapee from the Málaga car museum (first extra). Unfortunately my hands were full of rubbish bags, and by the time I had disposed of them and got the camera out, it was a bit late to get a good photo. But zooming and googling identifies it as a 1949 Packard convertible. It's not going in my #UglyCars collection.

Second extra: the Plaza de la Constitucion by night: the Christmas lights have been switched on. We got home late as the show went on till 10:30 and then we went to the backstop for something to eat.
