Smoky Govetts

The smoke situation at Blackheath was much as it had been yesterday. The good RFS news is that two of the three fires most affecting the upper Blue Mountains are "being controlled". I interpret this to mean that if favourable conditions persist for a few more days, authorities expect that the fires might well be confined to control lines and eventually burn themselves out with some encouragement from water bombers. There are some big "ifs" in that expectation of course. As always, time will tell.

The Lake Burragorang fire presently threatening Green Wattle Creek remains uncontrolled however. Tomorrow will be critical. If the winds remain calm and if temperatures don't soar too far into the forties, better conditions might arise for the latter part of the week.

The shot above is of a small group of people who emerged from a tourist bus at Govetts Leap Lookout at the Grose Valley. They had, no doubt, been hoping to see some scenery. They were very much disappointed I fear. I have given the pic a touch of "glamour glow" in an effort to add a little faux romance. Maybe we can pretend that the smoke is really mist.
