Take Me Home, Country Roads
Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,
We had our annual Christmas jumper day out today. This year it was organised by Basher and Lovely Shuvly and we were back in St Boswells. Lovely Shuvly had recently a charity sleep out with her colleagues in an old Victorian baths and I asked her how it had gone.
“We’re barred from doing it again,” she confessed.
It started with the security check when they were asked to open their bottles of “Highland Spring” for a sniff test. Somehow they got away with bottles of vodka and elderflower tonic (“I added elderflower to the water to help me rehydrate”) and rhubarb & ginger gin and tonic (“it has ginger cordial to settle her dodgy stomach as she is DETERMINED to be here to support such a good cause.”
Fast forward several hours to them all being hammered. When it was lights out time, one of the guys stood up in his shirt, pants and socks and declared that the lights were turned out by “sleep nazis.”
“So, they phoned on Monday morning requesting that we support alternative charities,” Shuv said sheepishly.
I was crying. Maybe they could raise money for Drinkaware!
The seven of us had a great lunch in Hunters Stable followed by a few in the Buccleuch and then headed back to Basher and Shuv’s for a nightcap. Except we were having such a good time that we forgot to leave! Our plans to get the train home were thwarted as the trains were cancelled because a bus had crashed onto the tracks so 5 of us ended getting a taxi back.
Note to self: wine and winding roads do not make for a pleasant journey!
