Look Ma - no glass!!
Two milestones today...
1) I drove for the first time since breaking my foot - went off without a problem
2) I hobbled just outside the backdoor onto our deck and managed to take some photos unobstructed by window glass.
The latter was done with all due caution and confined to the small patch of deck without snow/ice, duly propped against the side of the house. Felt great. The bird is a common winter sparrow, the White-throated sparrow. They arrive back here each fall, filling the yard with song and activity. They are one of the few birds that continues to sing during the winter, mostly juveniles who are learning their songs.
A slightly jarring note was when Hubs left to run some errands and noticed a large dead deer in our lawn. He called the police who ascertained that the deer had been shot and also possibly hit by a car. I don't begrudge hunters, especially those who hunt for food; however, I strongly object to people hunting animals without the skill to kill them. Guns are no different than cars - if you are going to operate one, you need to know how to use it. I will be glad when the deer hunting season is over, soon.
Got out of the house for a while this morning which was nice. Feeling on slightly more even mental footing now, thankfully.
Turkeys, chipmunks and lots of squirrels on the patio this morning. Happy we picked up another 40 pound bag of sunflower seeds yesterday!
Twelve more days...
