Sunshine after the rain

Last night we all enjoyed the ballet Sleeping Beauty, although it was a bit long and the last act could have been shortened. As one has come to expect from the Royal Opera House, it had very clever and creative sets and costumes, although personally I think that The Nutcracker was a better ROH production. Unfortunately when we came out it was absolutely bucketing down with rain - of course none of us had umbrellas, and the car was parked about 15 minutes away so we got totally soaked walking back to the car, which was not much fun especially as everyone had made an effort and was all dressed up, Meriel and I in heels. London is a city that never sleeps and there were so many people on the pavements that it was difficult walking in the pouring rain past them. Driving home at 11.30pm there was so much traffic, more so than when Gavin commutes to work during the week!

Today it was blue skies once again. I went back to Ockham Common with Gavin as he has never been there and we enjoyed our walk - no horses today and no dubious looking people either! There were puddles everywhere. On the drive home again one of the small roads was so flooded, thankfully we were in the higher 4X4 or else we would not have made it through there. There was a cyclist in front of us and the poor man did very well to stay upright in such deep water, and his legs and shoes were soaked by the time we got to the end of the flooded road. I asked Gavin to stop so I could get a photo but he was worried we would not get going again so we just kept going through the deep water.

A quick stop at the supermarket and then I made lunch. Adam is going back to Cambridge this evening, as he has so much work to finish this week before coming home again next Friday. And sad news from Jenni as she lost her grandfather last night.
