Truncated Spurs.
We were in need of supplies for the bird feeding station so that entailed a trip up the road, a couple of miles to the local bird food specialist, Bird's Bistro. Once in the car it was an ideal opportunity to get a blip other than in the house.
So we made our way along the old road, It was once the A5 something, the main road to West Cumbria. About 10 years after I moved to Penrith and opened the new road. Strangely called the A66. I say strangely because following convention all roads clockwise between main A roads were numbered by the main road to the left. So all roads between the Holly head road (A5) and the A6 were 5 something. The A66 broke convention by continuing as the A66 to the coast.
Ther shot shows the truncated spurs of Blencathra looking towards Keswick and the Western fells. The road looks like a minor road these days but it big carry all traffic to West Cumbria.
