Crew of Pannier await their next turn
A very enjoyable day on the Kent and East Railway at Tenterden Signal box on the final weekend of Santa Specials. Two more days still to do, tomorrow and Christmas Eve.
Despite the heavy rain over recent days we were able to run a full service. The most critical part of the journey was where the railway crossed the River Rother near Northiam. I was told the water was at the bottom of the bridge girders, occasionally slopping over the top which was OK to run. Any higher and we'd have to run Plan B. Not sure what Plan B was!
All 7 trains were full or nearly so, all ran to time and all the passengers I spoke to while working the gates had a lovely time. Santa made several trips down the line accompanied by his little helpers, the elves. Adults had a drink and mince pie and the children a good quality present. Facebook feedback has been outstanding. A great feeling of happiness and Christmas spirit around today.
Susan visited the box in the afternoon, the first time she's ever been inside. As it was only my third turn since passing out at Tenterden Town I was pleased all worked well on what is quite a complicated timetable.
