Diary of an Edinburgher

Merry Christmas

Quite the best Christmas Day weather in memory! Blue skies, no wind, and a balmy 6°. Perfect for a walk up Blackford Hill, and every man and his dog thought so too. Never seen so many folk up there - it was like a pilgrimage.

We picked Uncle A up about 11am, and he made it to the top, a place he hasn’t been for quite a few years, and he was most pleased with himself. And so he should be, at 91.

Back home for a slap up roast turkey meal, and we were all so stuffed, we couldn’t manage Christmas pudding and custard. Tomorrow.

We watched The Queen. I wonder if she writes an alternative speech, the one she'd really like to say...

Rufus and his mum came up later for a G&T, bearing presents. We have all been spoiled. Especially Archie, as it should be.

After complaining about the lack of decent television at this time of year, I discovered (on Quest) a two hour journey following the West Highland Railway on this evening. That's it. Just cameras on the train looking out at the scenery. No annoying music. No annoying commentary. Just the sounds of the steam engine rattling along. Perfect.

Extra: Archie admiring a new candle. I'm Very Impressed with the iPhone 11's (hand held) low light capabilities.
