Rusty on Ice
Last night, as midnight approached, we stood on the edge of Claire's garden, on the shores of the river, watching the fireworks. They were going off in Obbola to the south, in lots of houses across the river to the west, and when they made it above the intervening forest, in Umeå to the north.
Today we started slowly with cups of tea while I waited for the oven to warm up, so I could bake the sourdough I started yesterday. It had sat outside (in a box) with the temperature around freezing so the dough was fairly chilled. It made good bread!
Later we walked near the water, now and again on the ice, but the ice is in several layers so there was always the chance of breaking through into a puddle. It was also very slippery, even Rusty was slipping and sliding around. We walked out nearly to the headland but then it just got too uneven and slippery so we turned and headed home. The last section of road was definitely the worst (see extra). Even with spiked shoes we had to be really careful!
After that Claire made a delicious soup which we ate with my new bread, and then it was time to sit around reading and doing blips!
Tonight the cinema...
