Following the star home
Actually the moon. Whichever mega bright star we have had for weeks just off to the right (west), was just out of shot.
Last night I was expecting there to be a little fewer fireworks from the village. Public opinion seemed to be questioning how sensible it is. Well, our village firmly voted for continuing the practice. I don't remember a bigger and louder show than last night.
Angie always goes to the horse stables at 23:50, switches on the lights and turns up the radio to full. From there she has a grandstand view.
I stay in and near the house with cats & dogs. Eddie the cat was a bit nervous as he had to try to follow Angie out but quickly returned. After a minute or so, I went out on the terrace with the house between me and the village. Couldn't see anything but the echo/reverberation of the bangs from the forest which starts just 10m from the house was extraordinary. I hate to think what the wild animals suffer.
For the evening's walk did the simple up into the village and back circular route. Being good Germans, all the roads (we don't have pavements) had been swept by the residents and very few signs anything had happened. I picked up a few spent containers out on the edges of the fields.
Just before we got home and it was nearly dark, the firing started again. By law, fireworks are banned from tonight until 31.12.2020, so the children needed to get rid of the "Blindgaenger"- unexploded - bangers and rockets they have collected up during the day.
Cold again but very sunny. Several days of maximum 0°C so just maybe when we get the threatened rain/sleet on Saturday, it may be more like snow but there are no forecasts of anything worthwhile.
