New Year's pie
In recent years it has become a tradition on the first Sunday of the new year for Petrina and Stephen to host a 'New Year's pie' lunch party (see blips for 6th January 2019, and 7th January 2018). The menu is centred on steak pie purchased from a well known Borders butcher. Today we were also served a first course of smoked salmon and prawn salad, homemade chocolate brownies for pudding, and a magnificent cheese board. Each course was accompanied by some rather good wine/port (hic!)
The conversation around the dinner table on these occasions is always entertaining, and often very amusing. Today we discussed accountancy training, ailing parents (with a particular focus on two types - the depressed and the demented), bathroom fittings, Brexit, Bentleys, Cambodia, career moves of our younger relations, cruises, Christmas holiday weight gain, climate change, cosmology, divorce, downsizing, exercise, Girton college, golf, holiday plans for 2020, IndyRef2, iron deficiency, lawn care, the naming of the Conservative and Labour parties in Scotland, Oxbridge interviews, podcasts, retirement, Scottish independence, siblings, tax, and Vietnam.
We managed to fit in some exercise today by walking to the far side of Morningside to meet Liz and Tony this morning. Tony kindly drove us to and from our lunch party.
Exercise today: walking (14,528 steps).
