The view from our balcony

Back blipped on 7th Jan

We had an early start, we were out of our apartment en route to Tenerife North Airport before 0700.  And we only got lost once.  We dropped off the car, then got a taxi to the port in Santa Cruz.  We had been aiming for the 12.30 ferry, but in fact were there in plenty of time for the 10.30.  Which was all to the good.

We picked up a hire car in Agaete port, and set off for our accommodation.   We knew it was “off the beaten track”, only accessible by car.  W had been challenged by the narrow, winding roads in Tenerife, but the GC200 along the coast was almost too much.  There was frequently no centre white line, so judging the position of the car, on roads skirting steep drops down to the sea, was all quite stressful.

For my part, the views were stupendous.

Eventually we turned inland.  The roads were not any wider, but less busy, and no drops down to the sea.  And at least for a while there was a central white line.

We stopped for late lunch at Restaurante Las Cañadas, then pressed on.  I've included an extra of their Poinsettia tree, to evoke jealousy among those of us who struggle to keep one alive for a few weeks over Christmas.

The last 3 or 4 kilometres were on a mountainous single track road with occasional passing places.  Soria is the “end of the line” for normal vehicles.  Our accommodation is functional but basic.  The WiFi is broken.  But the views from our little balcony are great.  There's a little shop selling essentials, a lovely Artesan bread shop, and a small restaurant.  What more can we ask?

We were in bed by 8, asleep by 10.
