Winter Feeding

As it was so cold today there were a lots of birds at birdfeeder in the garden today, so I thought I would photograph a few of them. However, light levels were low and I was having to shoot at ISO 1600 to catch them. It effectively ruled out the possibility that I could take reasonable photos on the birds in flight. So what we have here is a chaffinch , two blue tits and a coal tit at rest. Other birds around this afternoon were gold finches and starlings. The young starlings are quite amusing to watch as they as too big to get nuts out of the feeder when perched and therefore had to flutter between each mouthful to keep themselves at the feeder holes. Whillst starlings seemed to be generally on the decline in the UK they are regular visitors to our feeders. One summer I counted a flock over over 30 on the grond underneath the feeders. All of the birds that visit us a relatively common ones though just occasionally we will get great spotted woodpeckers.
