Dear Mum and Dad
Be home at weekend I hope, for I hope to leave by air if all goes well, but I know I'm coming anyway. So don't write anymore after you get this cheerio.
With tons of love from Harold.
Ps
Will bring home fruit for the wedding cake.

This was my Great Uncle Harold writing home excitedly.. He managed to catch the plane but unfortunately the plane and him were never seen again. Official date of death 29/9/1945. He was 25 years old.

So a few jobs today plus a visit from the drainage contractor S who was completely happy with what would need to be done. He went away with plans and pictures in order to come back with a price - not looking forward to that...

Today's picture postcard was sent by Harold's father Jack to his sister during the Great War 14 / 18.

Tomorrow an extract of a letter from Harold's fiancee to Harold's Mum and Dad after he was reported missing presumed dead.

In the extras a picture of Harold (on the right) taken in Greece shortly after the end of WWII
