"The John Boy"

Today it has been very cold again but mainly sunny with clear blue skies. I had to go to Leith for a meeting. I love Leith, its full of interesting architecture and history.

This sailing vessel flying the Scottish flag, along with its bracket and lantern, are found at the entrance to the Ship Inn at the Shore in Leith. The inn dates from 1676. The model sailing vessel is not the original (which disappeared in 1960), but dates from 1984. It is based on the original sign for the Ship Inn and is hung on the original bracket.

On the front of the ship there is an inscription reading 'THE JOHN BOY'.

As I sat on the bus coming home the sun, a big yellow ball of fire, sunk behind the white peaks of the Pentland Hills - a reminder that amidst the dark and cold days of January nature can create some very beautiful sights.
