Winter trees
I was in Bingley this morning at the petrol station, not buying petrol but one or two items from their M&S store.
I took this shot for wide Wednesday - shapes. I love the shape of the bare winter trees against the brightening sky and the rather Gothic style house on the road above.
In the lower left corner you can see the sign Old Main St and it’s from here that the old road curves around the back of All Saints church and the Old White Horse a coaching Inn in the heart of the old town.
I confess that more on my mind was the Yorkshire Ripper! I have watched 3 documentaries this week about it, mainly concentrating on the police attitudes to the women involved and those outside of the ‘pattern’ of those with perceived ‘loose morals’ had crucial evidence including very good photofits that were ignored.
The road going up past the trees and to the right in this picture leads to Bingley Cemetery where Sutcliffe (the convicted ‘ripper’) is supposed to have heard voices from God telling him to do what he did!
We were married in 1975 and lived through this era when it didn’t seem that anyone would ever catch and stop him, so many dreadful mistakes made and unnecessary women’s lives lost largely because of the attitude of men in authority at the time. Nothing lessens what Sutcliffe did but I do hope that times have now changed sufficiently so every woman in society is now valued.
Oops, sorry that sounds a bit serious!
