Perth otter
I was delighted to catch sight of this otter in the Tay, right by the end of the High Street. The river was was running fast and rough in the wind, and the otter was visible for just a few seconds at a time. I think only three or four people noticed it, and I wonder how often it is there unobserved. Mrs P and the grandchildren saw one on Christmas day, and perhaps it has been around ever since.
The bush in the photo grows on the bank immediately beneath the flood wall, so that shows just how close the otter was to the street.
It's the glory of Perth that such things can be seen from the city centre - not just otters, but seals, herons, goldeneye, goosanders, and peregrines. Perhaps one day I will see a beaver - there are plenty of signs that they are here.
