Ruined in a Moment
This is one of the buildings completely torn apart when a river burst its banks during the exceptionally severe storms of September 2019. That was a terrible storm which J and I watched from our balcony - we heard that 7 years worth of rain fell in two days! It cause tremendous flooding, particularly severe when the local canal/river burst its banks spilling a huge amount of water in the surrounding area. Today we saw some of the results with this house completely ripped apart. A couple of other houses have just disappeared and there is video footage of people recording what had become of their lives. Now the riverbank is being repaired and new drains added in to enable the water to escape more easily should it happen again. We are very glad that our villa is on top of a hill so that excessive rainfall flows further downhill - not so good for houses lower down.
We spent a large part of the morning at a Notary (solicitor) getting all the paperwork in order for our villa to include all the add-ons since it was built (enclosed veranda and utility room done by previous owners and pool plus extra bedroom done by us). All these changes need recording on the escriture so that there will be no legal hiccups should we want to sell. BUT, this is SPAIN so who knows what would actually happen!
Close by this wrecked house is another ruin that I have long wanted to record. Today I got close and was able to poke around a bit. Another house that I imagine was spectacular in its day. (extra)
Now tidied up and more or less ready to go - flight home tomorrow morning. We hope to be back later in the year but we shall have to see how plans work out.
