Criffel
A dry sunny day for a change, so we made an impromptu trip after lunch. It is years since I have been to the Solways coast round Silloth. So we parked near the docks and started by photographing the industrial buildings of the Carr's Flour Mill. Then we wandered on round the perimeter, as I remember it from my youth you could get to the dockside as you still can in Whitehaven. Not in Silloth however the whole area is surrounded by a high chain link fence and barbed wire.
Eventually we reached a little car park, where there was a horse box and eight or so cars. As we approached the cars suddenly in convoy left. Clickychick was chatting to the people with the horse box, it turns out the cars were Twitchers (what is the collective name for a group of twitchers) chasing a sight of a Long Billed Dowitcher (as North American wader). We wandered on and I took this shot from the entrance to the docks looking towards Criffel.
We made our way home via Aspatria (my home town) then up to the café and garden centre at Moota. After a coffee and quick look round it was home along the side of Bassenthwaite Lake.
