Water View

Of course we have a water view of a different part of our Salish Sea!  Staying In PortTownsend at the old Victorian Palace Hotel on the 3rd floor with 14 foot ceilings, this is what we see out the window.  Port Townsend was discovered by Captain Vancouver in 1792,  sailing his ship, the HMS Discovery up the straits  of Juan de Fuca to Puget Sound and declaring this a safe harbor.   60 years later the first white settlers built a cabin on this street.... 6 months before Seattle was “settled” .   (  Of course there were natives already here).   It’s a charming town.. with a wooden boat center ( a new building to us). and maritime industry .   We are here to visit ( but not stay with) our friend Diane who has recently at age 81 bought a darling house here, and take her out to restaurants.  Her daughter lives here.   Leaving Seattle in the rain and mist, there’s one 30 min ferry and a bridge.  And then the sun came out.    We haven’t been here for a long time but have fond memories of spending nights in our sailboat at Point Hudson marina ( extra ) on our way north.   I also stayed on the boat for a fun week there a couple of times taking advantage of an art workshop at nearby Fort Warden. We’ve been talking most of the afternoon and walking thru the town enjoying  the shops, totem ( other extra)  and  a great fish dinner near the marina.    We’ll see what tomorrow brings.....a walk by the sea and.....
Other extra.. part of one of the public areas of the hotel...
