The Glamour Slammer

Or so this extension of the San Francisco County Jail was labeled by the local newspaper when it first opened in 1994. I thought that name was widely used, but when I referred to it in conversation with a retired SF cop recently, he didn’t know what I was talking about. A media invention, apparently—not the building, which is solidly real, but the nickname.
