Rattling along
Down by the floating bridge ferry (https://www.iwfloatingbridge.co.uk) that links East Cowes - the side we were on - with Cowes.
The short trip across the water saves an 11 mile trip by road.
The ferry is pulled back and forth by chains that run through the sides rattling away as the ferry moves. The chains sit well down in the water except when the ferry is in motion as they’re fed into and out of the ferry. When this happens the chains are closer to the surface and any passing boats have to give the ferry a wide berth to avoid collision with the chains as the ferry draws itself along.
