A sad day for the owner of this shop.  Most of her stock comes from Spain and Portugal (and Anniemay will testify to its fine quality), but given the financial uncertainties of the past year or so, her raw materials have become too expensive and she simply cannot afford to continue.

It's a loss for the town too.  As well as selling wool, it also provided a venue for people to get together and knit and chat over a cup of tea.  Anniemay was a frequent patron - she thought she was in wool heaven when she first entered this place.

But to my mind, there's an even sadder reason for the shop's closure.  The owner is now afraid to live here.  She was not born in the UK, but has been a British citizen for a long time.  Even so, she no longer feels safe.

She has, she says, " a strong accent" and has friends in other parts of the UK who have been subjected to abuse because of the way they speak and where they come from.  She doesn't want it to happen to her.  I can't really blame her.
