Turtles

A long transit day stopping at a turtle hatchery before reaching Galle. Volunteers patrol the beach at night and collect any eggs laid, transport them to a safe place and wait 70 days for the eggs to hatch. The tiny turtles are then kept for 10-12 days before being taken to the water’s edge for release. Giving them the best possible chance of survival.

The Indian Ocean is stunning, turquoise sea, white waves, palm trees.

After several nights of wonderful sunsets seen from the minibus or missed by doing something else, I was delighted to be at the hotel in Galle, with an uninterrupted sea view so settled down on the balcony with some Ceylon tea to watch it.

It disappeared behind a cloud bank far out at sea and the sky barely changed colour! Extra pic.
